Hi Guys,
This morning got off to a good start despite a restless night of sleep. Matt had to get up at 4:30 for his flight back to Boston and I didn’t sleep well after he left. I still went for a quick treadmill run in the hotel and then I headed over to my Grandmother’s apartment for one last visit. Gram is an artist and she let me pick out one of her paintings to take home. Don’t you love her funky style and the bright colors?
I also chose a couple of my Grandfather’s ties for Matt and this neat picture of Pop throwing out the first pitch at an Orioles game way back when.
Also, check out this picture of my mom at my age. Look like anyone you know?
We said a teary goodbye and set out for Charlottesville. As I mentioned before, I’m spending a night with Kath and her husband (Kanz) because I’m in the area and have some free time until I’m due in DC tomorrow. If you don’t know already, Kath and Kanz are planning to open a Great Harvest Bakery in the spring. Since a new location had just opened in a town about an hour outside of Charlottesville, we stopped to visit with the owner and have lunch.
Surprisingly, this was my first time at a Great Harvest and it was a feast for the eyes.
We tried a few samples including this amazing new creation.
Imagine a doughy purse full of cinnamon baked apples and a hint of cheddar. YUMM!!
We headed next door to a cute café called the Black Bear Bistro. I ordered the salmon pita, but I ended up exchanging halves with Kath and enjoying some of her hummus wrap. The food was fresh and flavorful.
We said goodbye to the Great Harvest owner and I was able to snag this peanut butter chocolate chip cookie for later…
I just arrived in KERF country. I think we are headed out for a beer and dinner downtown soon.
It’s nice to be back in in the south again!!! Everything is green and quiet and I can hear cicadas…
