Anyone have a good Friday? I did because pizza was on the menu. I didn’t like pizza growing up because I hated anything involving tomatoes. But, when I went to college, I discovered that pizzas don’t just come from Dominoes (I grew up in a tiny town) and that they can have endless combinations of toppings that don’t have to include tomatoes. I’ve been in love with pizza ever since and have it quite frequently to make up for lost time. I haven’t found the perfect dough though. I do like TJ’s dough, but I find it has a mind of it’s own, so I decided to give Whole Foods wheat a try.
Tonight’s toppings (Matt’s half had tomato sauce):
I wouldn’t say it was the perfect dough, but it was pretty darn delicious.
Matt stopped on his way home and bought this autumn ale. I obviously sampled it. It went perfectly with the chilly weather and was nice and nutty. I want another one!!
After dinner, we headed downtown to celebrate a friend’s birthday and we waited forever for the train…
I was so ready for a brew when we finally got to the bar and, without hesitation, ordered the Blue Moon Pumpkin Ale (on left). I thought for sure I had sampled this before, but apparently not, because it was not good!!! I could barely detect pumpkin and it was bitter in a bad way (like they tried to add seasonal spice and didn’t get it right?). Matt kindly offered to switch with me so I got to drink a Sam Adams Cherry Wheat, one of my absolute favorites. The cherry wheat is very fruity, but not that bland kind of fruity that you sometimes get with a hefeweizen – it’s strong and almost heavy.
After the first bar, we headed to Howl at the Moon, a dueling piano bar that just opened in Boston. This bar is a chain and we’ve actually been to the Chicago location (which I did not care for), but the Boston one was a lively dance and sing-a-long. It was tons of fun and quite entertaining. The birthday boy had a blast…

Today has been pretty uneventful, except for meals…
I’m always looking for new ways to enjoy nut butter and banana, so I experimented with freezing a yogurt dipped banana on a stick (well on corn-on-the-cob holders)…
I left it in the freezer just long enough for the yogurt and outside of the banana to harden, but not long enough for the banana to freeze solid. I wanted to be able to bite into it without getting that horrible feeling in my teeth. It was a fun snack!
Thinking about going to the gym and tonight we’re probably going out to dinner!

September 12, 2010 at 8:28 amGlad to hear about the dueling piano bar. I always used to like going to Jake Ivories near Fenway before they closed.
