Hello, Hello!
Thank you all for your words of wisdom about the working world! I’ll keep them in mind in the coming months.
My first day was swell. It began with a celebratory bowl of back to school cinnamon-apple-raisin oatmeal….probably one of the best bowls I’ve had in a while.
My commute took a little bit longer than expected, but I still got there on time. I was walking in as all of the high school kids were arriving and I had fun pretending I was one of them!
I spent most of the day touring the huge school, meeting deans, counselors, social workers, and other staff members that I’ll be working with, and learning about different programs and resources. The school is quite liberal and very different from my high school, so I’m really excited to be working there.
By 12:30, I was sooo ready for lunch and eager to dig into the new lunch tote that my Mom got me as a back to school present.
And, I was THRILLED to find a toaster oven at work. Goodbye cold, boring purse sammie, hello crispy bread with melted cheese.
The cafeteria actually looks pretty decent as well; they have a salad bar and veggie burgers from b.good on Tuesdays!!
The high school setting already feels much more comfortable, so I’m hoping my internship will be a better fit for me professionally than my practicum experience. I’m excited to start seeing students!
I also had my first internship class this evening, so when I got home from the gym, I had a quick veggie burger and a bowl of cereal before I had to leave again. The good news about my class is that it only meets on six Mondays during the semester and it doesn’t meet on my birthday!
I got out of class early, which meant I got home in time for Gossip Girl and a little baking. I used a No Pudge mix from the back of my pantry, but the batter sure tasted great. And, they came out of the pan beautifully…
I made these for a special meeting tomorrow night…
One day down, 176 more to go! See ya.

September 14, 2010 at 10:00 pmOh, goodness! I haven’t quite made the transition back to warm oats yet for the fall and I’m completely excited and anxious about it all at once.
For the record, if you had asked 17 year old Kat about that sort of situation, she would have been deeply concerned about the life I’m living now…worrying about the state of oats…hah.
Good luck with your internship, lady!
