Pizza Perfect

Uncategorized

How is it Sunday already? Remember when I started blogging because time was moving way too fast? Well, I think it’s moving even faster now. At least I’ve soaked up every minute of the weekend this far…

While getting ready for dinner yesterday, Matt and I cracked open this Elephant Rock Bock that my parents bought us during our visit to the Just Beer Brewery this summer. It was just as delicious as I remember – slightly hoppy, but still malty and a little sweet.

Then we set out to one of our Boston obsessions: The Pizza and Ice Cream Company, aka PICCO. We’ve actually only been to Picco once before, but we declared it the best pizza in Boston and have been talking about going back ever since. Not only is the pizza fabulous, but the prices are reasonable, the ingredients are mostly local, and the beer selection is notable.
Though I was REALLY temped to get another Pumking, I love trying new brews and went with the Hampshire Special Ale, an English strong ale made by Geary in Portland.

Like many English ales, this beer wasn’t overly flavorful, but it was smooth and malty and perfect with pizza.Speaking of pizza, we ordered a large half-n-half with roasted red peppers, goat cheese, chopped tomatoes, salsa verde, and arugula with a balsamic drizzle on one side and bacon, garlic, gruyère, and creme fraiche on the other side.

Both sides were to-die-for. I mean close your eyes and savor each moment delicious. At one point, as I was looking at a side view of my slice and drooling over the spongy focaccia dough underneath the toppings, I even proclaimed that I’d found my dream crust. I had two slices of each flavor and felt 100% satisfied with life – until Matt suggested we try a dessert. After all, Picco is also an ice cream company…

We choose the homemade gingerbread. We went with cinnamon ice cream (you get to pick!), figuring that it would compliment the gingerbread nicely. PS: that’s homemade whipped cream and a raspberry sauce you see. Ding! We have a winner. Another perfect combination at Picco. Need I say more about this dining experience?

That food looks amazing! But I really came to comment on your mention of Pumpking which my boyfriend and I love. I don’t find most beer exceptional, so I was really surprised by how complex the flavor was.

Ooohh, I’ve got to try that place. I’ve added it to my list…

Time has moved very quickly this weekend, and the temperature has dropped 30 degrees too.
