Well the vacation is officially over:( Although I’m mostly sad, I must say, I’m a little bit glad after twelve days of travel. I missed my apartment! I also haven’t worked out since last Wednesday, so I’m craving a little sweat. The one thing I’m not excited about at all is getting up at 6:40 to go to my internship. This time yesterday, I was just finishing up a lovely dinner, and this time tonight, I’m already late for bed. It was soooo much easier coming back from Christmas break when I was in school because I got excited for a new semester with new classes. Work, on the other hand, just picks up right where it left off. All of my students are facing the same challenges they were before the break and I still need to help them!
I’m planning to share some general resolutions for the new year and the new semester with you guys, but I need to get settled and unpacked tonight so I’ll save them for tomorrow and give you a quick recap for my last day in New York.
My friends and I gathered at a fun pizza place (apparently, it’s a chain?) called Piola to celebrate the birth of my friend Lizzie. I had a salad and we all shared a few pizzas. I loved the crust and the fresh toppings on these guys, but they actually tasted a big bland to me. I guess I’m just spoiled by Picco.
Tomato + arugula
shrimp + broccoli
I had two glasses of red wine and the birthday girl took a shot!! We had lots of laughs over dinner and then had a drink at another bar before turning in. It was a very low-key night, but I loved every minute of it. There’s nothing better to me than a fun dinner and a few drinks with friends:)

This morning, Matt and I met up with my friends before catching the bus back to Boston. The last time I visited my friend Liz in the city, she took me to the incredible Sarabeth’s for brunch and I’ve never quite gotten over the experience. So, when she suggested Sarabeth’s this morning, I knew we had to go.
I got the same lemon ricotta pancakes with farm fresh maple syrup and they were just as moist and succulent as I remember. Normal eating resumes tomorrow so I made sure to clean my plate.
I hope everyone had an incredible holiday!!! Are others returning to work tomorrow? How do you deal with the back-to-work blues?

January 2, 2011 at 10:32 pm6:40 isn’t bad! When I was doing my school social work internship, I had to be there by 7:10 a.m. (when school started!), so waking up at 5:30 a.m. was necessary. In fact, I wake up at 5:30 for my current job!
Also, I spy blackberries. I just made blackberry muffins tonight! I’ll blog that tomorrow.
Good luck on your first day back! 🙂

January 3, 2011 at 10:50 amI couldn’t agree more about work not being as fun to return to as school! One thing that helps me is to write in a few fun events to look forward to on my calendar. It helps me know know that even though the holidays are over, I still have some great stuff ahead!
