Thursday was mostly dedicated to traveling, but we did have time for a short visit + lunch in Albuquerque before our flight. We walked around the Old Town area, and stumbled across the rattlesnake museum. We didn’t have time to go in, but they had big turtles crawling around outside.
And then we spotted the cage labeled “desert scorpion.” I’ve spent most of the trip tiptoeing around and trying to avoid corners in fear of these guys, so when one of the volunteers just grabbed him from the cage, I was in shock.
But she explained that this variation of scorpian was gentle and that the sting is really no different than that of a bee!
We spotted this cute patio and the Quesadilla Grille: a little cafe that makes 15 different types of quesadillas! Even though we had promised ourselves that we’d be having salad for lunch, so couldn’t resist. Next thing I knew, I’d taken down four slices of a Hawaiian, with ham, pineapple, and chili dust. I’ve had a lot of quesadillas in my lifetime, and this one was a winner.
Nearly six hours later, we arrived at the Omni. Though the hotel is in an isolated area, it was half the price of our inn in Santa Fe and ten times as nice. I just like the simplicity and clean lines in hotels.
…with lots of cool things to look at in the lobby.
And I love how the bride and groom of this wedding are so organized…makes it so much more relaxing for the guests!
Snacks.
Reunited and it feels so good:)
Poolside pina.
Last night we attended the rehearsal dinner at the Hotel Zaza in downtown Houston.
It was so fancy and the room had a fun view.
Makers and sour!
The passed hors d’oeuvres were great – jumbo shrimp, lamb shanks, brie with apple chutney, and purses full of beef and mushrooms.
The signature cocktail was champagne with a splash of berry rum.
Hi Cambridge loves (+ Kinnon)!

July 16, 2011 at 5:07 pmI think that any sense of reasoning would have left me if I was confronted with a quesadilla restaurant that offered 15 different choices. I slay myself thinking about it, even!
What a beautiful rehearsal dinner – I hope that you have the loveliest weekend with your friends! SUCH a fabulous reason to get together, obviously.
