Life Update

Brooklyn Life Ramblings

How’s it going out there? Safe to say spring has arrived in most of the country?

It went from zero to eighty over here and I’m loving it.  I hate to be so weather obsessed, but it makes such a big difference in daily life. We’ve been out and about more, seeing flowers and boats and green, and going to bed so tired and content at the end of the day.  I know I said this a few weeks ago, but transitioning from working part-time to staying home full time was harder than I expected, and I finally feel like we have a rhythm. I still miss my job, but I find myself feeling less sad about it now than I did in Jan/Feb. I think part of that is feeling fortunate to be out exploring each day with Emerson now that it’s warmer outside.

Em is also enjoying the gym childcare so much now, and actually cries when I come to pick her up to take her home. She used to cry when I dropped her off, and while I know this was nothing to worry about, I still felt guilty leaving her. It’s much more fun going to the gym when I know she’s having a great time with the toys and other kids. Although all the walking we’ve been doing has left me too tired for the gym lately.

Matt seems to have turned a corner with his job as well.  He’s coming home closer to 7:00 now, has already experienced success, and seems much less stressed than those first few months. I’m so happy and relieved that he likes his position, as we gave up many things to be here!

I don’t know why I can’t remember this from all of our previous moves, but it takes a long time to get into a groove in a new place. I’m thankful that I’m in that groove, and that we’re heading to Southampton with friends this weekend!

The arrival of Spring, and the soon to follow Summer and Fall will all really give you a big boost in mood. It’s always really hard to arrive in a new place in early Winter such as you did, especially in a place like NYC. And not to mention all the big snowstorms there this year.

Experience with (12) domestic moves and (8) international moves has led me to the conclusion that it takes about (12) months to really get into the “new groove”. Good things may come sooner, but it really is around the one year mark that the “settled in” feeling seems to really kick in. Unfortunately, on a few occasions, soon after that one year mark it was time to move again!

Am currently in the DFW area. Am hoping to make the big NYC move someday!

Thanks:) I cannot believe you moved that many times! You’re a rockstar! Jealous that you are in DFW!

That’s funny, I am kind of jealous that you are in NYC!

I would really love to experience that for a year or two. So much to see. So much to do . . .
