I shared our first floor last month, and wanted to show you the rest of the house. We haven’t made as much progress upstairs, and although there’s lots I’d like to work on, buying nursery furniture/decor will take up the rest of this year’s house budget.
Couch from West Elm / Kitchen from PB Kids/ Table from Skip Hop / Rug from PB Kids (similar)
One of the things we loved about this house is the play area that’s at the top of the stairs. We threw all of Emerson’s toys and a our fold-out couch up there, and will attempt to organize it at some point. We were thinking of getting a second tv, but now I’m thinking we really don’t need another one.
Our spare bedroom will become the nursery! Right now, it has all our of old guest room furniture in it, and we need to get rid of this at some point this summer. I kind of held back with Emerson’s room and tried not t make it over-the-top girly (and bought more gender-neutral furniture), but I may just do pink and frills in this room:)
I love that there’s a jack and jill bathroom that connects the two bedrooms! I spend a lot of time sitting on this rug during Emerson’s baths.
I’d really loved to paint Emerson’s room because the white is so stark in contrast with the colors, but it’s just not a financial priority right now. Maybe once we transition Em to a big bed, we will paint or finish this room in some way.
Crib from PB Kids (no longer available) /Rug from RugsUSA.
The changing table will move over to the nursery. I guess we’ll be getting a second chair because we still use this with Emerson all the time.
Glider from PB Kids. Changing table from PB Kids (similar).
PS- if you are wondering why we bought a lot of nursery items from PB Kids, it’s because I choose items that were Greenguard Certified for low chemical emissions and PB’s stuff is on the cheaper end of the Greenguard spectrum…
Bed from Bassett / Side Tables from PB
Our bedroom is one of my favorite rooms because there’s lots of light and the valted ceilings make it feel airy.
Bench from PB / Bedding Dresser from PB
Gosh I wish we had purchased lighter wood or white side tables and dressers right after we got married and moved to Texas!! But we are stuck with these for a while.
I love this shower!!!
We have his and hers closets in the little hallway between the bedroom and the bathroom.
They are pretty small, but it’s so nice to have separate space.
And that’s our house!

May 16, 2019 at 10:56 amIt looks lovely and fresh and airy. I also have vaulted ceilings in the master bedroom and think I would want them in every future house as they make such a difference. As a Brit (and living in London), I did have to laugh at you saying the closets were small – it’s typical for us to have a wardrobe one third of that size shared between a couple! I find American houses fascinating!

May 17, 2019 at 3:18 pmI find living in London fascinating too! I imagine there’s not much new construction there. We lucked out with a huge closet in NYC because we were in a new building, but I know those older closets can be tiny!

May 16, 2019 at 8:27 pmLike Ellie I was surprised by the small closet comment. I live in the Northeast in an area with a lot of older homes and I’ve never seen a closet that big. I would kill to have that to share with my husband. I’m sure you get used to the suburban space though! It was nice seeing a tour of your home.

May 17, 2019 at 3:17 pmYeah, I was spoiled in Texas:) Actually, I think it’s not the actual space that’s small, it’s that the door opens inside, so it’s just hard to get in there and move around. They should have done a pocket door there..

May 18, 2019 at 6:06 amWe had dark furniture in our bedroom too, and chalk painted white when we moved. Then sanded the edges to make it more “rustic.” Way cheaper than new furniture!

May 18, 2019 at 11:10 amYour house is lovely!
I think you’re smart to wait on Emerson’s room. The transition to bed/big girl room is a great time to make color changes. They look so tiny in a big bed 🙂
