Anyone else exhausted by the end of the weekend? We had a fabulous summer weekend that included time with friends, eating out, and celebrating Matt.
A friend of mine from Dallas was in town on Friday, so we spent the morning with our girls at the splash park and playground. I walked there and back (about 2 miles) and wasn’t sure I could make it home. Walking is hard! We got takeout for lunch and came back to our house. Emerson and my friend’s daughter played nonstop for like 4 hours, and Em was so wound up by the time they left. I knew Emerson would have a hard time falling asleep at nap time and heard her talking and moving around a lot in her crib. Imagine my surprise when I heard a door slam and checked the monitor to find she was no longer in her crib. I knew this day would come. I found her wondering around upstairs and she was so proud and said “I had a good night’s sleep” when I went up to get her. I put her back in and told her we don’t climb out of the crib, and watched her do it again on the monitor.
I had already been putting her sleep sack on inside out, but she has still figured out how to unzip it. So for the third attempt, I put it on backwards and watched her fail to figure out how to take it off. She fell asleep Friday afternoon, and we haven’t had any trouble since. Fingers crossed she can make it at least 6 more months in her crib! When Matt got home, we headed back out for dinner at Pizza Peel. We scored an entire free pizza because the manager felt our pizza was overcooked (we assured her super crispy crust was fine with us, but she insisted!) There was a festival going out and Emerson loved joining in on the drum circle!
Saturday, I headed to Trader Joe’s for both our weekly groceries and some stapes for our trip to the beach next week. And then I got a prenatal massage! Thanks to Matt for the mother’s day gift. It felt so good after the previous day’s walking and helped with some glute pain I’ve been having. We debated going out to dinner on Saturday, but decided ordering in would be more relaxing. We still wanted to go to an activity as a family, so we settled on a brewery and ice cream!
We lucked out that there was a huge soccer party going on at NoDa Brewing – this meant all the crowds were inside watching the game and there was a bounce house set up outside. Emerson bounced while we relaxed in Adirondack chairs and enjoyed the perfect weather (we had a cold front and it was glorious). I tried a few of the beers from Matt’s sampler (they have gluten-reduced beers too!) and cannot wait to come back in the fall when I can indulge in a pint.
We then headed over to the new Jeni’s in Noda where there was no line at all! I have become obsessed with this ice cream!! Emerson got frozen yogurt, and Matt and I got a flight of four flavors to take home for later. Thai + a movie rounded out the evening. It was such a fun night because it involved so many experiences!
Emerson gave Matt the gift of sleep and didn’t wake up until 8:20 (!!) on Sunday, and then gave him the handprint painting she had made at school. We let him enjoy a hot yoga class while we did a workout video (Em has gotten into doing some of the exercises with me!)
And then we took Matt to brunch at Little Spoon. Although we didn’t care for the rap music blasting in the restaurant, the food was awesome and I loved the vibe at this unique little breakfast and lunch spot. I also gifted Matt Counterman for father’s day:) Emerson’s nap didn’t really happen, so we went to the mall to return some curtains (sidetone: having the hardest time finding curtains for our open living/dining room) and play on the playground there. Emerson melted down without a good nap, and I was so exhausted by 8, that I could barely make dinner. I somehow found the energy to make bbq salmon, butternut squash, and the first corn on the cob of the year. It was a lovely summer weekend that was worth the exhaustion!
