It was so nice to have a lot of down-time at home. Although we didn’t have many plans, it quickly turned into a busy weekend.
Back up to last week – Emerson did the rapid results swimming lessons all week and she LOVED it. And I loved staying dry and watching the expert work with her. She put her head under the water for the first time and seemed really comfortable in the water.
Em was kinda off all week – a lot of screaming and getting easily frustrated, but it was sporadic and she had a great day on Friday. We made our usual pizza on Friday night, but Matt made the dough this time. He must have let rise longer or kneaded the dough more than I do because it was so fluffy and incredible!! Side note: we had to switch from Pamela’s gf crust mix because I can no longer find it, so we’ve been using Bob’s Red Mill.
Saturday, I hit up prenatal yoga and was so uncomfortable afterwards – baby must have moved into a weird position because I could barely walk around after. It still felt good, and I’m going to try to practice twice a week once Em goes back to school in September. I remember my Dallas chiropractor telling me at 36 weeks – this is not a time to be strong, it’s time to be soft, flexible, and open – I know I need more yoga and stretching .
Matt headed out for his workout and Emerson and I did some painting. I’ve been avoiding painting projects at home because of the mess but decided I need to get over it – A friend told me just to buy washable paint, so that’s what I did!
I headed back out for a haircut and came home with no hair! This is the second time it’s been too short for me. Both times, I’ve been a little upset but then realized how easy it is to curl, dry, etc. I do love that and I sometimes wonder if it’s worth having longer hair if I’m just going to wear a ponytail everyday…
I hit up Whole Foods and was so happy to stock our fridge and pantry. Between shopping a little light this summer (because of summer travel and not wanting to waste food) and ordering Prime deliveries, I’ve missed just browsing the aisles and trying new things. I’ve also been eyeing the wine section and wondering when I should buy a nice organic red for October:)
We had planned to go to a casual bbq place for dinner but there was an hour wait! So we ventured across the street to Bistro la Bon. It was a little fancier than we had planned (and we worried that Em fit throw a fit), but our waitress was wonderful and Emerson enjoyed playing with a chess set that she found at the bar. We had a bunch of small plates, and although everything was enjoyable, nothing stood out as amazing. I’d like to go back as we really liked it overall.
Sunday morning involved a lot more screaming, so after calming down and making pancakes, we decided to head to the Minute Clinic. We had a wonderful nurse practitioner who confirmed that Emerson had a double ear infection and the start of swimmer’s ear. I was so relieved that the screaming wasn’t just random two-year-old behavior! It’s weird that Emerson never has fevers or symptoms other than screaming with her ear infections.
Our weekend ended with a really fun backyard sprinkle for a friend due with a baby girl in 3 weeks! Personal backyard bounce house = genius. There was delicious food, and since the toddlers entertained themselves, we relaxed and had adult conversation.
After 2 rounds of antibiotics and Tylenol, Emerson slept in until 8:30 this morning and was like a new person. I’m excited, as this is one of our last weeks of summer together! Hope y’all had a decent Monday.

August 13, 2019 at 10:39 pmI think your hair looks fab!!! Sorry about the swimmers ear – poor Em. What are some of your favourite organic reds?
Laura
August 14, 2019 at 10:29 pmThanks! Anything from Frey Vineyards, and Our Daily Red are two common organic ones that are pretty good. I was on a kick of walking to our local natural wine store in Brooklyn and choosing something from small vineyards last year. I’ll have to find a good wine shop here:)
