We continued the theme of home improvement over here this weekend. We worked all day Saturday, and I was so tired by Saturday night that I could barely find the energy to go out on a date with Matt. We knocked so many things of our to-do list, though, so we had a Sunday funday that involved a movie and a concert.
Matt worked from a co-working space on Friday, so we kicked off the weekend with a trip to our big Imagine On kids library in uptown and then met for lunch at the 7th St. Market. I really wish Matt’s office was in the city so we could do this more often! We shared two types of crepes from one of the market vendors. This got me excited for the legit food hall we are getting and I’m excited to check it out as the restaurants open over the next couple of months.
Matt and Em got into their usual shenanigans (I think she’s getting really tired of me saying “mama can’t do that – the baby is in the way/too big/it hurts.”) I decided I really wanted Chinese food. We ordered from PF Changs just because I haven’t had General Tso’s chicken since I went gluten free in 2014 and they have a gf version!! It was actually pretty good considering it came from a big chain restaurant and probably wasn’t fresh. Once Em was in bed, we watched A Star is Born – LOVED the music but felt so sad afterwards. I just wanted to BE with Bradley after that movie.
Saturday’s tasks involved cleaning up our patio in preparation for the screens to go on this week (!!), grocery shopping, more touching up paint throughout the house, and anchoring things to the walls/hanging pictures.
The nursery is coming along, but is still soo white, and I keep ordering things to bring color in and then returning them. Not sure what to do about an ottoman either – was thinking of putting new fabric on this l little $50 stool I found at Homegoods, but now I’m not so sure. Working on a lamp shade and throw pillow as well.
We had a sitter on Saturday night, and I somehow convinced Matt that a trip to Homegoods would be more fun that pre-dinner drinks. We came out with a few odds and ends, but nothing that had really been on our list.
For dinner, we had reservations at the new Peppervine, and let me tell you, it was incredible! The space was somewhat formal, and the menu was all interesting small plates (our favorite type of dining experience). A couple of the dishes (cauliflower, kimchi pork belly, and Korean short ribs) just blew us away! We also started with mussels and ended with flounder + succotash which had more delicate flavors.
We were kind of dragging on Sunday and decided to take Emerson to see The Lion King. I think she’s probably too young for movies, but she’s listened to the soundtrack a bunch and I was just curious to see what she would think; so we went for it. She was super scared of the theater and was crying so much during the previews that we had to leave. But, we convinced her to try one more time and waited in the hall until the movie started. Once she saw all the animals and heard the music, she was ok, although she sat in my lap and clung to me the entire time. Overall, she did great, but I did have to give her a play-by-play every five seconds – she asked a million questions.
Matt spent nap time prepping a lasagna for us plus roasted sweet potatoes and his lunches for the week. I’m hoping he continues to feel inspired in the kitchen in October:) When Em woke up, we went to see the Jolly Lollies play a kids concert at a brewery with some of our friends. Did I mention I’m so ready for a beer? It was hot, but fun. I was thrilled to come home to our already made lasagna for dinner and relax on the couch for the rest of the night.
Talk to you soon.

August 21, 2019 at 2:59 pmWe make the veggie lasagna from Kath’s blog with lentil noodles all the time! https://www.katheats.com/favorite-foods/the-best-vegetable-lasagna
Otherwise, Matt takes a salad with rotisserie chicken/veggie burger or sometimes a rice bowl with frozen veggies + chicken sausage.

August 21, 2019 at 5:07 amThe nursery looks so pretty and tranquil! I had the cutest ottoman from HomeGoods but ended up returning it and getting the My Brest Friend nursing stool. It’s not nearly as pretty but is SO comfortable.
