We had another celebratory weekend – this time for my birthday!
My mom and dad came back to Charlotte on Wednesday, so that my dad could meet baby Avery (he was on a men’s hiking trip in Yosemite when she was born).
They brought sparking rose and we toasted to the new addition before having Thai takeout on Thursday night.
Em was excited to have some extra attention again and spent most of the visit pretending she was Angelina (or Alice) while my parents were Mrs. Lilly and Mr. Popoff.
Friday was my actual birthday and Matt and I headed to the brand new Batch house in the morning to pick my my cake. The baker is the absolute sweetest and fit in my order despite it being the day before the bakery’s grand opening. I think she makes the best gluten free cake I’ve ever had!
We spent the rest of the morning straightening up and getting showered and dressed in preparation for our newborn photos! I think we got some good ones and cannot wait to see them!! The photoshoot took all afternoon, and then we scored a last minute reservation at The Crunkleton.
I never dreamed we’d go out on a birthday date night, but Avery is so predictable during the day, that my parents urged us to try and make it happen.
I’m so glad we did because it ended up being the perfect birthday dinner and we were home by 7. I ordered a spicy tequila drink (never tasted SO good after a 10 month break!!!).
And then we quickly ordered a few small plates – mussels with herb fries, mushrooms, brussels, and the most amazing wings.
The waitress was so sweet and brought us complimentary champagne. I gave most of mine to Matt knowing I’d have to feed A right away, but it was still fun!
Back at home, Emerson led the singing and helped me blow out the candles.
And my parents got to experience the magical carrot cake.
Matt got me a ticket for the Celine Dion concert:)
I don’t think we did a single thing on Saturday other than say goodbye to my parents, watch a movie, and make a pizza. But, Sunday, we braved the mud and headed out to the Wise Acres pumpkin patch.
I spent half the time feeding Avery and changing poop in the car, but it was nice to get out on our first family outing, and Emerson had a blast.
We came home with three pumpkins and one of the almond flour sugar cookies made by Gina of Pink Turtle Cookies (these are gf, healthier cookies that can be made in the cutest designs and are great for kids).
With my parents gone and Matt going back to more normal working hours, I feel like the end of a month-long celebration/staycation/rest period/time of extra support has come (although Matt’s mom is coming in two weeks) and I’m going to attempt this mom-ing of two kids thing. Wish me luck!
