Weekend Rewind + Thanksgiving Prep

Cooking Weekends

Hello and happy Thanksgiving week! We are hosting Matt’s family and I’m excited to stay in Charlotte.  Aside from a lot of grocery shopping, food planning, and cleaning, I’m hoping it’s a relaxing week.

Other than that, there’s not a lot going on over here. I’m just enjoying this slower season of life and spending most of my time at home.  Last week, my doctor cleared me for exercise, but I’m working with the pelvic floor PT to add specific exercises back into my routine slowly. I was able to do some bicep curls, squats, and lunges last week and I was sooo sore on Friday. It just shows that even a very gentle workout is doing something! On Saturday, I did a yoga/barre hybrid workout and it felt amazing to more even more!

We had a low key Friday to kick off the weekend –  Thai and Tempranillo!  This was best of the Frey wines so far.

Saturday, we tackled the meal planning and massive grocery list for the week.  Matt’s mom will do some of the cooking for us, so I bought everything for a traditional turkey dinner.  I also ordered two pies for dessert and a shiitake mushroom pot pie. We did a bunch of stuff around the house on Saturday and played games with Emerson because it poured all day long.  I was supposed to have a hair appointment, but the salon actually lost power:(

Saturday night, we went on a date! Avery is  still unpredictable (and I’m not ready to leave her quite yet), so we got a sitter just for Emerson. It was a win-win because Em got to play Lion King and Angelina for 2 hours straight with the sitter, and we got to grab dinner and catch up with friends. We went to El Thifty Social, and although the food was average, we enjoyed chatting over margs and guac + a very lively atmosphere.  Avery slept through dinner in the Solly wrap, and then we went to a friend’s house for a small cocktail gathering. Avery was wide awake and ready to hang!

Matt made us pancakes on Sunday morning, and then we went out on a family walk. Poor Emerson was running full speed when she fell and bit into her lower lip. Her upper lip is swollen, and she also has scrapes above her lip, on one hand, and on her foot. We took it easy on the couch for the rest of the day, and gave her popsicles (fruit juice, milk, & smoothie) to try to help with the swelling. She’s never really had an accident where there was a lot of blood, so I think she was really shaken up.

Our guests arrive Wednesday, and other than the Thanksgiving meal, I’m hoping to get some time outside, visit a brewery, check out the Charlotte Thanksgiving parade, do a little black Friday shopping (Beautycounter black Friday sale already started), and get some quality time with family – Matt’s dad and sis will be meeting Avery for the first time!!
