‘Tis the week before Christmas! Anyone traveling anywhere really exciting?
We had a great weekend with a few fun outings.
Friday, I had a girls night with some friends at Sweet Spot studio for a cookie decorating class. The studio had a gluten free cookie option which was so thoughtful of them!!! The cookies were already cut and cooked, and we learned how to mix royal icing and then practiced different techniques on the cookies. We also brought wine and snacks, so it was a fun evening.
For being extremely unartistic and impatient when it comes to tiny details, I thought my cookies turned out pretty well.
Emerson was the happiest person in the world when I brought the cookies home and let her eat the gingerbread man the next day (with extra icing:))
Saturday morning, Matt took Emerson out to see the singing bears, but sadly, the performance was cancelled and the website wasn’t updated. So they headed home and we all went out to Charlotte’s new food hall for lunch. Optimist Hall was empty for a while during the soft opening, but I guess it’s now in full force and super crowded. Our absolute favorite taco shop from Dallas, Velvet Taco, just opened a stall so we waited in line for a while for tacos. Sadly, their computers were down and they couldn’t handle the orders coming in, so they closed down the shop. And even more of a bummer, I found out they won’t be making corn tortillas at our location, so I won’t be able to eat there:( We quickly grabbed lunch at Village Juice instead and I had an amazing avocado, bacon, and egg on GF sourdough toast.
Now that we have two kiddos, we’ve obviously been staying in a lot more at night on the weekends. I’ve actually been enjoying it more than I thought I would. We try to straighten up the house, put on nice music + candles, and then make fancy cocktails and order food we wouldn’t eat during the week so that it feels special. We also let Emerson watch something on TV and eat her favorite dinner (ravioli, usually) so that we’re not having toddler battles.
Saturday, we all watched some of the Polar Express together, and then Matt and I had margs and Mexican food (chips + chipotle salmon + brisket enchiladas).
Sunday, I played with the girls while Matt did a workout class, and then we all headed out to NODA Brewing to enjoy the beautiful weather. Sadly, our yard is still a money mud pit after a year of french drains and attempting to grow grass, so this is one of our favorites for running around on the turf area with Adirondacks and picnic tables. And the taco truck that is often there is excellent. Em worked on her soccer skills, and then we ended up meeting some people who we chatted with for a bit.
Buffalo cauliflower, chicken tikka, and pork belly tacos!
During Em’s nap, I got things wrapped and organized for Christmas (note to self, do not leave pictures like this on my phone as someone saw her Lion King bathing suit!!). And I went to yoga!!
And on that note, I’m feeling a little bit stressed about getting everyone packed and ready to travel to Grammie’s house for Christmas, so I’m off to make a big list for the next few days to try and stay on top of it!
