Friday morning started with an early wakeup with this cutie who is getting two bottom teeth. She finally gave up her 5:00/6:00AM feeding/wakeup, in July but began waking up early again over the past ten days with the teething. She started crying at 5:30 and we let her cry it out for about 15 minutes and she went back to sleep. It must have woken up Emerson though, because we heard her up and playing in her room.
Needless to say, it was an early morning and I was feeling like a zombie since we went to bed late the night before. We spent the morning hours eating breakfast, getting Emerson dressed, and packing her lunch before school. At 8:45, I loaded both kids in the car and we were off to school. Emerson’s school does not allow adults in the building, so we said goodbye to her in carpool and came back home. Then Avery got a little one on one play time (this has been a rarity and was so nice last week!) with me before her nap at 9:30.
I was planning to do a workout since I had taken the day before off, but given my exhaustion and the state of the house, I decided to clean instead. I took my time (I usually rush around) and got the house extra organized (does anyone else feel like things are chaos after guests leave??). Avery slept about an hour and a half, and then we headed out on foot to the park!!! Our parks opened for the first time last week since March! I wasn’t sure if there would be many people there, but brought my mask and figured I’d check it out.
Luckily, it was empty! We met up with a friend and her babe too. Avery has seen like 2 other babies her whole life and went on the swings for the first time! We walked back home and had a quick lunch of lentil pasta and chicken sausage leftover from the night before.
The weather was fabulous, so I decided to walk to Emerson’s school to pick her up. Matt was taking a quick lunch break and joined us for the first half of the walk – it’s about 20 minutes to her school, so I’m hoping to walk once or twice a week.
Em was excited to see us and showed us her ants at a picnic craft:) She had a snack on the way home, and then we played in the loft before both girl’s naps. I usually read to Emerson with Avery and get her in her room first (she doesn’t really sleep or get tucked in anymore, so the challenge is just getting her settled enough to agree to stay in her room to rest). And then I feed Avery and put her down closer to 2:30.
I enjoyed some time on the couch – responding to emails, starting this post, and talking on Instagram a bit about what I thought of Me and White Supremacy. And then I heard the delivery person bring our new art! We’ve been looking for something to go here for a while and gave up on finding original art in our budget. We went with a framed print from Minted.com by the same artist as the one above our mantle. I love it. Now, we need to figure out how to hang it.
Em didn’t nap and came down after about an hour and a half (I have her ok to wake clock set). She usually watches a show after her quiet time so I can get dinner prepped. Since it was Friday and I wasn’t making dinner (give me all the takeout on weekends these days), I did a few things around the house and watched with her. Avery woke up shortly after, and it’s this time of day that we usually start bugging Matt to emerge from his office. Around 5:30, he agreed and we made bourbon drinks to take with us on a neighborhood walk. #FRIYAY
We fed the girls dinner around 6 – fish sticks + peas for Emerson and various leftovers and items from the fridge for Avery (she eats anything, haha). I did bath time while Matt straightened up the kitchen. I put Avery to bed and then ran to pick up Yafo (the best mediterranean bowls). We enjoyed dinner on the patio and a moment of relaxation!!
We had a painter lined up to paint our interior front door on Saturday, so we tried two samples on the door – crazy Friday night! We actually didn’t like either, so we then spent an hour on the Sherwin Williams app picking a color in between the two. We settled on Slate Tile (more on our entryway refresh in another post). We ended the night with an episode of Million Dollar Beach House and called it a night around 10:30!
