I’m finally getting around to writing a post about our trip to The Cloister at Sea Island! When we first booked this trip, we dreamed of a post-covid, vaccinated vacation where we could return to normalcy. We used Meg to find the hotel and book the trip, and decided to splurge a little bit since we haven’t stayed at a hotel/resort in 18 months! Little did we know that Delta would rear it’s ugly head. We debated cancelling many times, but ultimately decided we could travel pretty safety if we stuck to outdoor activities and changed our room within the resort.
So we asked Meg to change our room from the main hotel to the beach club. The beach club was actually booked up, but Meg kept checking and we were able to change our room about two weeks before! Switching from the main cloister hotel to the beach club meant we got a kitchen, outdoor corridors and no elevators, and a private entrance that went straight out to the pool!
We loved our room! We had a sweet terrace and plenty of space with the girls – there was a main bedroom with two queens and then a living room with a small kitchen. I feel like it was somewhat of a miracle that we all slept well in the same room for 5 nights! Meg was able to get us a big breakfast credit that we could use on room service, so we got pancakes, yogurt, and chia parfaits delivered every morning. That might have been my favorite part!
We were also so close to the pool and beach, which was great for bathroom breaks and nap time. Since schools were back in session, there were very few families there and we had the kids pool area to ourselves often. It was such a treat!
The food was awesome! We dined outside at Southern Tide and Tavola and then did takeout or ordered from the beach bar for all of our other meals. The cocktails were tasty too:) I was in heaven with all the fresh seafood.
We also ventured into St. Simons for dinner at The Porch one night! It’s a super casual place with traditional southern food and they have gluten free fried catfish! I would definitely recommended, especially with kids.
We also got takeout from a healthy cafe called Sea Salt and omg the bowl was amazing. There’s nothing I love more than a bunch of veggies and toppings in a bowl with a really good sauce.
We also had lots of ice cream from the sweets shop beside the pool!
We rented bikes one day and Emerson rode a real bike with training wheels for the first time. When she got tired, we put her in the trailer with Avery and they loved cruising around the island.
Did I mention the grounds were gorgeous!? I almost felt like I was in the Caribbean!
We had an amazing time and were totally spoiled! All of the staff had on masks but none of the guests wore them (we saw a lot of FL plates) so I think we made the right call staying outside for our young kids. But, there were so many more activities if you go inside – a bowling alley, spa, more restaurants, a kids center – I’d love to go back again someday because there’s so much to do!
