Charlotte Food Ramblings The Working World Weekends

Hello, and happy polar vortex week.  I hope you guys are staying warm out there. Matt and I had a really low-key weekend, as we were both dealing with colds that were just dragging on and left us feeling tired. We did manage to eat some Mexican food (spices are good for colds, right?) at Supernica. This might be a new favorite, especially since the salsa is some of the best I’ve had. And the kids meals come with popsicles, so…

Charlotte Fitness

Charlotte

I’m excited to explore the Charlotte fitness scene.  I was super spoiled living above a YMCA in Brooklyn, but the classes weren’t the greatest.  I’m trying to find something that inspires because I’m finding my taste has changed over the past couple of years.  I’m checking out Burn Boot Camp but can’t quite decide if it’s for me at this point in my life. I love the sense of community (it’s all women), and I’m happy after I’ve finished a…

Amazing Restaurants Charlotte Life Weekends

Hello. I feel like I have so much to tell you all because there are so many new things/routines/experiences in my life right now. Emerson has been so excited about preschool and the teacher says she is a model student:) However, she’s been throwing irrational fits, crying, and having a really hard time time with naps as soon as she is back in my care. I think she’s just exhausted from being on and engaging in activity for 3 hours…

Exploring The Queen City

Charlotte Life Weekends

Can you believe it’s a new year? The weather down here is throwing me off and I keep forgetting it’s January.  We had a week of dreary rain and our yard keeps getting worse: The beautiful new sod that was here when we saw the house is all gone, and sadly we’re going to have to put in all new grass and install french drains to deal with the flooding.  But, after the week of rain, we had the most…

Holiday Fun

Charlotte Cooking Life Ramblings Restaurants Weekends

Hello out there!  Are you guys tired from the holidays? I sure am!  We packed our bags yet again and headed to Hillsborough for Christmas.  It was actually good to get out of our house because we were forced to take a break from the never-ending to-do list that came with moving into our house. My sister’s fam came down from Charlottesville and I got to meet baby Birch!  Gosh he was tiny and very cute! Emerson got along great…

Whirlwind

Charlotte Life

This past week has been a true whirlwind with so many ups and downs!  The good news is we are finally feeling settled and love our house and neighborhood!  Our travel went smoothly and our truck arrived early in our delivery window. We’ve had some hiccups with the house (plumbing, heating, outdoor flooding) which was a rude reminder that home ownership is no piece of cake. I think it’s worth it though, and I have to pinch myself when I…

Thoughts from a Thursday

Life Ramblings Shopping

-I’ve become obsessed with this Chilaquiles inspired scramble for lunch.  It’s just a small handful of Red, Hot, & Blues chips (or some scraps from the bottom of the bag) sautéed in salsa.  I add frozen spinach for nutrition and then scramble 2 eggs in the middle of the pan and top the whole thing with guac. Hits.the.spot. -Matt and I have a date night planned in Greenwich Village this weekend and I’m so excited for one last dinner in…

Life Ramblings Travel

Hello! Moving logistics have taken over my life!  If you don’t hear from me much over the next couple of weeks, you’ll know why. We had a lovely Thanksgiving break! I took Emerson to her Practically Preschool class, and then she got to skip her nap so that we could get on the subway to go to Penn Station.  It was a little frantic at the station, but we used the red cap service in order to board the train…

Weekend Distractions

Life Restaurants Weekends

We had a relaxing and fun-filled weekend, which was nice after a sad week. Matt lost a classmate and was glad to have a distraction when we hosted a taco night for one of his former co-workers + wife.  I made margaritas for everyone in an effort to quickly use up some of our liquor.  We picked up brisket from the local butcher and bought all the fixins’ for some epic tacos.  We need to do this more often! It was such…
