The Blind Butcher and Betty Who

Weekends

This weekend was such a good one, filled with food and other festivities! Friday, Matt and I tried a new neighborhood eatery called The Blind Butcher. The atmosphere (upscale pub/speakeasy), service, and food were fantastic. And we were quite pleased when the bill came to $40! A mint julep and the soon-to-be famous pretzel bread with mustard to start: We ordered the pastrami egg roll appetizer, which was my favorite item of the night. It was crispy on the outside…

Rustic Beer Saturday & Sundown on Sunday

Cooking

Pizza and wine is becoming a Friday favorite! We opened a local bottle that we received from a friend. It was light and spicy. I threw together a pizza with leftovers from our pineapple crockpot chicken along with sheep’s manchego, spicy bbq sauce, and cilantro. Pizza is always good. And we watched Rent because I had never seen it! I was impressed Matt knew many of the songs:) Saturday we hit up bootcamp and made a hearty lunch in preparation…

Life This Week

Cooking Ramblings The Working World

Oh hey. Happy spring. And happy 60th birthday to my mom! I’m very jealous that she’s celebrating with the rest of the fam! It’s been a busy week here, and I loved it! I had a bunch of interviews Wednesday and started working at Equinox this week. Although I’ve been substitute teaching since the fall, it’s been less consistent lately and I just needed more steady income. It’s also nice to have more structure to my week, as it looks…

Vegas

Travel Twenties

Vegas is intense! I can’t believe how many people were there – I arrived and was like, oh, this is where everybody has been all these years! I got to our hotel just as the sun was setting on Friday night! I was the last to arrive and it was glorious to walk into a hotel room of friends! My friend Emily was our host for the weekend and she did an amazing job planning everything and getting us on…

Birthday Party + Couch Weekend

Uncategorized

This weekend involved both partying and resting. I made tons of cupcakes on Friday! Half were for my friend Liz’s birthday party, and half were for the Duke/UNC watch party we were supposed to attend. I made strawberry buttercream, but used too much strawberry – the flavor was great, but these melted under the patio heater later on. This has happened to me before so I should have known to be careful! Next time I might try freeze dried strawberries.…

Thoughts from a Thursday

Life Ramblings

-I’ve been counting down the minutes until Friday because, well, it’s Friday, but also because I get to eat Tex-Mex. I become more obsessed with every passing minute in Texas. -Speaking of obsessed, see below: -I went out to dinner with a new friend on Tuesday and it was such a nice weeknight treat. We had a beer with dinner and talked for over two hours (that’s a spicy shrimp wrap with slaw, btw). Week night outings are one of…

Lovwine + Barter

I think I jinxed myself with the winter comment in my last post – it’s currently 22 with freezing drizzle! However, Friday and Saturday were glorious, so we still got to enjoy wonderful weather this weekend. On Friday, Matt and I stayed in and opened this lovely bottle of wine we purchased on our last Charlottesville visit. I remember tasting it and really liking it, but the second time was amazing! Seriously in love with this wine. Matt ended up…

Cooking Life Ramblings

-I’ve been eating bowls all week – farro bowl with veggie burger, rice bowl with chickpeas and curry sauce, pasta bowl with chicken sausage and red sauce, and a quinoa bowl with Mexican toppings (sidenote: I took home some of the salsa from Blue Mesa Grill that was served at the party and it is the absolute best I’ve ever had!! I must get more!) -The daffodils are blooming in Dallas and temps are warming up. Was that winter? If…

Hunter Gatherer and Bday Desserts

Uncategorized

The weekend was lovely. I hadn’t really seen Matt in a while because of Key West and his weekend soccer tournament plus weekday travel for work. It was wonderful to go on a date! HG Supply has been on our list for quite some time, so we were both really excited to have dinner there. HG stands for hunter gatherer and the menu is Paleo-inspired; the food is simple and clean, and so was the space! I had a fabulous…
