Life Ramblings

-Where did this week go? Is it true that time moves faster as you get older? -Matt and I scored free Mavs tickets this week. The people-watching was fabulous – people sure get dressed up to see sports in Dallas. The game-watching was fun too:) -It seems like there have been a lot of House Hunters International episodes lately where couples just quit their jobs and move abroad. Matt always comments that he wouldn’t mind uprooting, especially when you can…

New Orleans: The Sights

Travel

Matt and I had both been to New Orleans before, but it was a long time ago for me and only a 48 hour trip for Matt. So, we wanted to see the sights. We had planned to do a ton of walking and a few morning runs, a historic bike tour of the city, and a walking tour of the French Quarter. Sadly, we had rain and unusually cold temperatures, so we weren’t up for as much outdoor activity…

New Orleans: The Food

Travel

I’m home from New Orleans, and already missing the incredible food. Exploring new places through restaurants is a huge part of travel for me, and New Orleans is one of the most unique food cities in the US! I was in heaven the whole time! I ate some traditional dishes as well as modern interpretations of classics too. Our first stop was an adorable little bar/music venue on Frenchmen St. called The Three Muses. It’s no secret that Matt and…

Christmas in Dallas

Cooking The Working World

Hosting Christmas in Dallas was a blast, but boy am I exhausted. Matt’s parents and sister and my parents and sister, husband, and family were all here!! Everyone arrived on Christmas Eve, so I prepped a big spread of food in the townhouse where they were staying. We were up late eating appetizers and drinking beer, hot apple cider, and egg nog (I thought the almond kind was pretty good with bourbon!). I made bbq pork shoulder in the crockpot…

The Calm Before the Festivities

Uncategorized

Happy Sunday that’s really a Wednesday! What are you guys up to for the holidays? This is like the first time in my entire life that I haven’t traveled and it’s so relaxing! Matt and I had a nice weekend with a mix of fun and prepping for our Christmas guests. After grabbing a beer at a local Irish pub on Friday, we came home and made dinner. I sipped on this begian dubbel while chopping brussels and baking some…

Life Ramblings

-I have new books! As soon as I read Jenna’s post, I knew I wanted something good to read over Christmas and New Year’s. I’m currently reading The Blue Bistro, which is set on Nantucket, and I’m loving all the food descriptions. -I also have new icing tips – so excited to make something with giant blobs of icing! -My stomach feels better than it has since last year and my digestive system is…well…working again. I think my Christmas present…

Gingerbread Cups & Holiday Gatherings

Uncategorized

Oh hey Sunday. Time is flying. I can’t believe Christmas is next week!! Friday night was our usual low key evening. Matt and I grabbed beers at a cozy Irish pub and then ventured on to another bar for food – we shared mussels in a delicious tomato broth and the brisket enchiladas. I had two more parties this weekend, so I baked on Saturday! Confession: I used Trader Joe’s gingerbread cookie dough because it’s awesome and easy. I cut…

Cooking Ramblings Shopping

-The sun’s out after days and its glorious. Those post-apocalyptic scenarios where the sun doesn’t shine anymore are my worse nightmare. -Matt had to travel this week, so I ate lots of bowls with toppings for dinner. My usual go-to combos over quinoa are: roasted broccoli, nuts, and veggie burger; black beans, corn, roasted sweet potatoes, avocado, salsa; mushrooms, carrots, spicy sausage, and Indian simmer sauce. This new one I had last night was incredible and included cranberries, sweet potatoes…

Christmasy Weekend

Uncategorized

I had a very festive weekend! We stayed in on Friday and took it easy because Saturday was Matt’s company party at the Ritz!    We got all dressed up and I finally dug out the purse I bought on our last day in Italy. I had kinda forgotten about it and it was still stuffed with Italian newspaper! We joined some of Matt’s coworkers for a drink and then walked over to the Ritz. It looked beautiful! They had…
