Nice Day for a Hike

Durham Durham Restaurants Life

For the most part, my job involves working in an office. But every once and a while, I get out. Today, I led a group of students up 230 stairs to the top of Duke Chapel. Man, I was not expecting the climb to be so treacherous. Because the stairs are very narrow and dark, I climbed at a steady pace so I could to the fresh air as quickly as possible. Going round and round made me very dizzy.…

Weekend of Eating & Drinking, Part XXXII

Amazing Restaurants

Last winter, I had one sip of Southern Tier’s Choklat stout and nearly died. Aside from Pumking (also a Southern Tier beer), this is one of the greatest substances on the planet. Both beers taste just like cake!!! What you see below is actually the Choklat stout mixed with Southern Tier’s Jahva imperial coffee stout. Surprisingly, this is a spring release and my sister gifted it to Matt over the summer. We’ve been waiting for the temperature to drop to…

Southern Dinner & Working Man’s Lunch

Uncategorized

Last night = laid back, perfect Friday. We had planned on going to a restaurant, but when we saw the full southern buffet at Fuqua Friday and Fullsteam (!) beer, we knew we had found dinner. Dirty rice, maple collards with squash, sweet potatoes, sausage gumbo, and fried catfish. Southern food is awesome. Fullsteam had their Southern Lager (way stronger than a lager in my opinion) and Working Man’s Lunch. Both were excellent. I had three:) Dessert was some kind…

Happiness Is

Durham Restaurants Life

Happiness is… watching six episodes of House Hunters in a row, a double date on a Sunday night, a half pint of Lagunitas Little Sumpin, and a huge veggie grilled cheese at the Federal. Happiness is planning your halloween costume with your best friends, the end of a Monday, a trail walk with the girls, and having eggs and cereal for dinner. If happiness is all of these moments, then what is everything in between?…

Two Plates

Durham Restaurants

Hello, Hello. A rainy, cold Friday makes for a miserable day at work. A rainy, hot Saturday makes for a productive and cozy day at home!! Laundry, spinning, grocery shopping (who knew Harris Teeter was so expensive!?), cleaning – I’d say it was a success. Last night was also quite successful. I went to Fuqua Friday, and because it was Octoberfest night, I enjoyed a free pint of Palm (an all-time favorite beer). I had intended to try the other…

Home for Dinner

Amazing Restaurants

When I lived in Boston I used to think: it would be nice to just get in my car and drive home. That’s what I did today! I headed to Hillsborough after work for a mother-daughter dinner at one of Churton Street’s cute cafes: The Gulf Rim. Though there are only a few restaurants in Hillsborough, I think I’ve only eaten here once and now I love it! I’m on a big southern food kick and Gulf rim is creole…

Blast of Beer & Bread

Amazing Restaurants Travel

Charlottesville was a blast. Hi Kanz. Saturday, we drove straight to Great Harvest. This was the first time I’d had seen the bakery and the final product is very impressive. I started drooling immediately upon seeing the sweets. I could not work here because I would eat all the products! As much as I love sweets though, the bread really is the best part. I had half of a sandwich and split a snicker-doodle and blondie with Matt Both were…

A Quick Hello

Travel

I had a relaxing night – a drink at Fuqua Friday and then we met two of our friends for drinks and a burger at the local Irish pub. I got in bed early because I’m heading to Charlottesville today to drink lots of this: and hopefully eat some of this: and hang out with Kath and Kanz! Have a great Saturday.…
