Out of Season

Cooking

Well it was bound to happen – I left my computer cord at work, so I now have a dead computer with no way to revive it until Monday:(  I’m still able to blog  Matt’s computer, but I don’t have the pictures from this week and thus the lack of a Fashion Friday post… Other than that, Friday was good and very low-key.  My meeting went surprisingly well (we found the child ineligible for special ed) and I got quite…

Cheers to a New Year

Travel

Matt and I had a glorious day roaming the streets of New York. I had the best chai latte of my life and then we had the experience of tasting (and buying) cheese at Murray’s cheese shop. We met up with my college bffs around 7 for an awesome spread of appetizers put on by my friend Liz. The cheese we bought at Murray’s was very flavorful and unique: the tickler cheddar and a stinky orange-rind brie. I ate…

The Beginning of the End

Travel

My family enjoyed one last cocktail hour by the fire yesterday. We broke out the fancy fig brie and some salami that Kath & Kanz brought from Charlottesville. We sampled the Squirr-ale.  That is Kanz’s original home brew  brought to Bald Head when the tradition began three years ago. It tasted the same as I remembered, but it does show just how far Kanz’s beer-making skills have come since he began. I sure love having a brewer in the family… and I…

Barely a Boot Camp

Travel

Any guesses as to what we did last night? Surprise, surprise, we drank lots of good beer and ate delicious food:) I spotted one of my all time favorite beers in the Durham Whole Foods last week, so I snagged one to enjoy on vacation. It wasn’t quite as thick as I remember, but it sure tasted like chocolate. I received this banana bread beer as a gift, we I shared it with everyone. The banana taste was good, but…

Grey Snowy Island

Travel

A grey and snowy island = ultimate relaxation . We all spent the majority of the day on the couch in front of the fire, but we ventured out just before cocktail hour for a little exercise. The snow and wind intensified on our walk and we barely lasted 30 minutes. I warmed up quickly with a home-brewed imperial pumpkin once we got back. Mmmmm. I switched to wine for dinner… We enjoyed all of the food that had been…

The Fireside Buffet

Uncategorized

What a wonderful day with family! Kath, Kanz, + Karen, and Matt’s family all arrived this afternoon just before cocktail hour. I had a a big old mug of Kanz’s home-brewed double. We made lite sandwiches to keep our stomach’s from growling during church… Our group braved the cold and walked downtown. We sang all the usual hymns and shared the flame to spread the Christmas cheer. Once home, we gathered around the tree for the yearly Younger buffet and gift…

Holiday Edition

Uncategorized

The Christmas partying continued at one of my friend’s houses right across the street from mine. His parents have a party every year and the food is always awesome. This year’s spread was Mediterranean inspired. I had a little of everything, including some un-pictured fudge, caramel popcorn corn, and truffles. I didn’t taste anything I didn’t love over the course of the evening! The booze was flowing so I also enjoyed a few lovely glasses of red vino. ‘ Santa…

Whirlwind

Durham

Whew. This trip has already been quite a whirlwind of excitement. Yesterday, we went straight from the airport to Durham to apartment hunt. And, boy did we see a few things we liked… We’re going back tomorrow and may even make a decision while we’re here! Unfortunately, my bad headache returned yesterday afternoon and I had to go to bed instead of working out. I guess I’ve just had a lot on my mind and, combined with lack of sleep,…

Brrrbon, Banana, Barleywine

Uncategorized

Gotta love nachos. When I was in middle school I used to melt american cheese over tortilla chips in the microwave every day after school (nutritious, I know). Now I rarely get to indulge, so I was pretty excited to make a dent in this platter at happy hour yesterday. We went to Sunset Cantina, which is famous for bar food and a decent beer list. We also ordered fried pickles (which I usually like), but I thought these were…
