Beers at the Office

Uncategorized

After work today, I headed to Matt’s holiday party at the office. I really didn’t feel like getting un-dressed to go to the gym and then showering and getting dressed and re-doing hair and makeup all over again, so I decided a walk would be the better option today. I ended up walking from my apt to Matt’s office downtown, which is no big deal in the summer (~3 miles), but this was an accomplishment in the cold temps. To…

Souper Sunday

Cooking

Happy Monday…only one more to go until the Holidays!! Speaking of Holidays, the Newport mansions were decorated for Christmas and we took a lovely tour of Marble House on Sunday… We listened to an audio tour and learned all about Alva Vanderbilt and her summer “cottage.” It was the perfect activity for a cold, rainy day in December. Per the recommendation of Tina, we had lunch at the Seabreeze Cafe in Newport for hot soup and sandwiches. This was a…

Progressive Dinner

Travel

Howdy ho readers. We really lucked out with yesterday’s weather…we arrived in Newport around 2 and enjoyed the sunny skies and [somewhat] warmer temperatures. After checking into the historic Hotel Viking, we set out on foot in search of fresh chowder. After Kath consulted the blog world, we headed straight for the Black Pearl. Warm, doughy rolls hit the spot!!! The chowder was definitely unique, with lots of tiny clams and herbs, but I kinda missed the huge potato chunks…

Friday Food & Fun

Uncategorized

Nothing like coming home to cupcakes on a Friday afternoon:) Kath, Kanz, and I split these three items (leaving the fourth part for Matt): red velvet, butterscotch, and a shot of cappacino. Totally awesome, but a bite of each was just not satisfying enough….I need my own piece of cake!!! After our snack, we headed to the Publick House for liquid nourishment. I started with a Victory brown ale spiked with coffee. It was lighter than other coffee beers I’ve…

Banana Cakes

Uncategorized

Happy happy Friday friends. How often do you wake up to your house guests making pancakes!? Kanz was a-cookin Kodiak cakes bright and early this morning. He added lots of fun toppings to the batter: choc chips, bananas, flax seeds, and shredded coconut : I topped mine with more bananas + regular Trader Joe’s and Nutty’s cinnamon raisin peanut butters. Delicioso. I worked hard on report writing all day and essentially finished the report that’s due after Christmas!!! Now only…

Gallows Gobbler

Uncategorized

Half days are awesome!!! I went to work and then came right home again:) I did a quick stint on the elliptical before Kath and Kanz arrived all bundled up and ready for a walk! We strolled down Newbury for a bit and tasted some sweeet balsamics at the Boston Olive Oil Co. before heading back home. It was so brutally cold out and now my body is itching and red with chapped skin:( As soon as Matt arrived home…

More Food, More Fun

Uncategorized

Saturday night, Matt suggested we continue the celebration so we headed out to the Citizens Public House and Oyster Bar in Fenway I had a small Ommegang witte and then accidentally ordered a large Ommegang Belgian Pale ale. I was surprised that I really liked the pale ale; it had a sweeter, lighter finish than a lot of pale ales. Matt and I love splitting a variety of things, so we split the sweet ricotta with honey on crostini, two…

Thank you all for the Congrats! I’ve passed them along to Matt. It’s fun knowing that there are Durham readers out there too:) Friday was the perfect celebration. I took Matt to a cute Indian restaurant in the heart of the south end. We enjoyed an awesome bottle of of spicy French wine, compliments of my mom! We chose a vegetarian entrée, so we decided to order the meat appetizer sampler to get a taste of everything. I wasn’t that…

Let the Christmas Countdown Begin

Travel

I’m home sweet home in chilly but cozy Boston. Let’s see, where did I leave off? Oh yes, another delightful meal. I ate really well on this trip:) After some exercise in Charlottesville (I biked while they ran), we headed out to a cute bakery/cafe for lunch. Matt and I split a big bowl of veggie chili for lunch …along with a shrimp and herb cream cheese omelet with gouda cheese grits. Kath encouraged us to get a biscuit because…
