I’m home and back to my normal life.  Our last day of vacation was long and involved mostly driving and snacking.  We really wanted crepes for breakfast, so we walked down to rue Saint-Jean one last time. Sadly, the wait was over 30 minutes and we needed to get on the road, so we decided another day of french pastries in the car would have to do. This one was stuffed with apples.  Both pastries were amazing and were gone…

The End of the Rainbow

Travel

Day two of my vacation started with stair climbing, but not in the gym… But first, I ate pastries. If there’s any time to eat dessert for breakfast, it’s when visiting a country with fresh-baked French pastries… Matt and I split these beauties along with coffee on the drive out of the city to the Montmorency Waterfalls. It was pouring on the drive over, but the rained suddenly stopped when we arrived.  I wasn’t quite prepared for the cold temperatures…

As promised, here’s a recap of our food tour and dinner.  We basically spent our whole day on Saturday eating!  I love learning things about cities I’m visiting and I also love food, so I signed up for a 2.5 hour walking food tour. The tour began with a sample of a simple (but slightly sweet) bread that comes from Quebec city.  Our tour guide was very informative and spent a good ten minutes at the beginning of the tour…

Two Peppers in a Pan

Uncategorized

Since my farmer’s market peppers were so fat and juicy, I knew they would be perfect for stuffing. I’ve made stuffed peppers a few times before and haven’t really liked them.  The first time, it was because I used green peppers, which taste blah to me.  The other time, it was because I didn’t like the stuffing.  I thought I’d give stuffed peppers one more try tonight, and I’m glad I did because these were great. First, I cut the…

As promised, here’s a recap of my last night in DC. You can read the events leading up to this evening here. While Lizzie and I showered in preparation for the evening festivities, I cracked open the 21st Amendment Watermelon  Beer. I think I must have had really high expectations for this beer because I was disappointed with the first sip. Since it’s a wheat beer, I expected it to be thick like some of the other wheat beers I…

Beer Run + Burritos

Travel

We started the evening with a little beer run… It wasn’t just any beer run… ‘Twas a trip to beer heaven! Beer Run is actually the name of a bar/restaurant/beer store all in one!  The selection is awesome, so we went for a pre-dinner drink. I ordered this barrel smoked bourbon stout from Bluegrass Brewing Co. and it was strong, sweet, and perfect! I was also on the lookout for an interesting canned beer for a tubing extravaganza that’s taking…

I’m so excited to have readers!!  Thank you all for your sweet comments and thanks for the shout-out Kath.  It’s so nice to have some encouragement when starting something new. So remember when I said that I can’t stay up on Friday nights anymore?  Well I also can’t sleep in on Sunday mornings anymore:(  After tossing and turning for the past hour, I just decided to give up on sleeping and blog. I woke up with that feeling that something…

Mexican Mix + Movie

Uncategorized

Oh how I love Saturdays!  Matt had some work to do this morning, so I volunteered to keep him company at the coffee shop.  I’m more productive when I leave the house, so I was happy to tag along.  Plus, I always enjoy a good cafe au lait. As I write this, I’m trying not to think about the plate of cookies that just arrived at the table next to mine.  So about last night…it was a pretty typical Friday…
