Beers at the Office

Uncategorized

After work today, I headed to Matt’s holiday party at the office. I really didn’t feel like getting un-dressed to go to the gym and then showering and getting dressed and re-doing hair and makeup all over again, so I decided a walk would be the better option today. I ended up walking from my apt to Matt’s office downtown, which is no big deal in the summer (~3 miles), but this was an accomplishment in the cold temps. To…

Progressive Dinner

Howdy ho readers. We really lucked out with yesterday’s weather…we arrived in Newport around 2 and enjoyed the sunny skies and [somewhat] warmer temperatures. After checking into the historic Hotel Viking, we set out on foot in search of fresh chowder. After Kath consulted the blog world, we headed straight for the Black Pearl. Warm, doughy rolls hit the spot!!! The chowder was definitely unique, with lots of tiny clams and herbs, but I kinda missed the huge potato chunks…

Friday Food & Fun

Uncategorized

Nothing like coming home to cupcakes on a Friday afternoon:) Kath, Kanz, and I split these three items (leaving the fourth part for Matt): red velvet, butterscotch, and a shot of cappacino. Totally awesome, but a bite of each was just not satisfying enough….I need my own piece of cake!!! After our snack, we headed to the Publick House for liquid nourishment. I started with a Victory brown ale spiked with coffee. It was lighter than other coffee beers I’ve…

We arrived in Charlottesville just in time for another Thanksgiving [lunch]!!! And I got to have one of my favorite Thanksgiving casseroles: Karen’s Pineapple Sweet Potato:   Kanz’s Rosemary Garlic Cheddar rolls and homemade imperial pumpkin ale were awesome too! Dessert was my mom’s pumpkin chiffon pie and Karen’s apple bars. Mmmmmmmmm. After lunch, we braved the [southern] cold for a hike to Jefferson’s homeland on Monticello trail. Rejuvenated by the fresh mountain air, we prepared for yet another Thanksgiving…

The pilgrims would be jealous

Thanksgiving at Matt’s was just dandy. After an hour stint at the local Gold’s gym, a beer tasting ensued. The Mad Elf Ale was BEER-tastic! It reminded me of a darker and less-sweet version of the Sam Adams Cherry Wheat. Definitely a new favorite. The other two beers were nothing to write home about and, honestly, the winter ales are all starting to blend together. Meanwhile, Matt’s mom was hard at work, cooking a fabulous dinner. I had planned on…

Tastes of Lenox

Hi guys, How was your weekend? I was able to fit a lot of fun stuff into my mini getaway to the Berkshires. Since our trip was only  a one-nighter, we decided to start the vacation before we even left Boston with more pumpkin pancakes on Saturday morning. After picking up our rental car in Cambridge, we made a pit-stop in Newton to check out the Great Harvest!!! They had samples of an amazing pumpkin bread with gooey cinnamon. After two hours…

The Lobstah PumQueen

An orange squash brought much joy to my life last night. I dressed up as a lobster, met up with a vampire… as well as a cop and a hunter… and headed to a pumpkin beer festival at the Cambridge Brewing Company!!!!!!! When we arrived, there was a huge wait, but we braved the cold for an hour and a half because we LOVE beer. It was totally worth it in the end. We were ravenous when we finally got…

Today was just one of those days. I was sad that my friends were gone, the festivities I had been looking forward to for weeks are over, and my stomach was cramping because that just how it rolls. I really needed an attitude adjustment. I took the weekend off from the gym, so I knew it was in the cards after work, but the thought of going straight home was too enticing. The couch won. Usually, once I go home…

The Fun Begins

They’re here! My apt is all clean and ready for guests… and the guests came bearing gifts! These are cupcakes (that obviously got damaged in transport) from Fancy Cakes by Leslie in Bethesda!!! They were all delish, but the red velvet with purple icing was my fav. I’m assuming the ganache frosting may have had soy lecithin in it, but I made an exception, and had no adverse reactions [yet]!!! We popped open a bottle of wine from my small…
