Yesterday was delightful. The other intern and practicum students at work were kind enough to bring in lots of treats in celebration of my birthday (and the other fall birthdays at work). I didn’t try everything (because of soy lecithin), but these pumpkin cookies (made by Lauren) were awesome and almost cake-like. I also had some homemade apple crisp made with apples picked over the weekend! I felt a little lost after work because I didn’t know if I should…

On this day, a quarter of a century ago, I entered the world as the [strange-looking] daughter of Barbara and Cliff. Don’t worry, I grew out of those cheeks (well, kind of). Check out our dresses and the autumn leaves in the background…no wonder we are so fond of fall. And maybe this explains my love of classic plaids? I pretty much look the same today as I did back then, no? Now that I’m working, having a Monday birthday…
The nor’easter is here! A friend and I drove out to Framingham this morning for the bullying conference. Luckily, we were traveling against traffic and it didn’t take too long. The conference was awesome and I’m glad I decided to go kind of last-minute. The director of the department of safe and drug-free schools gave a very witty and powerful speech on the effects of bullying and he made me want to go into educational policy. The other speakers…
Another beautiful day in the Carolinas… — Last night was just delightful. We stopped at a new bar in downtown durham for a round of beers…. And then we made our way to Watt’s Grocery for dinner. This place has been on my list ever since I read about it on Be Fit, Be Full! Oh man, these were probably the BEST hushpuppies I’ve ever tasted. They were so thick that they reminded me of pound cake! I had a…
Howdy from the plane! Ten years ago, who would have thought that I could capture a digital image while flying through the air, blog about it, and display the imagine on a site that can be accessed by any person on the internet? Did I mention that while all this is going on, I’m also watching a personal movie about Tina Fey having a baby through a surrogate mother? Oh, technology. Fashion Friday anyone? I spent most of my…
Sundays have become my baking day! I made a really simple apple crisp with oatmeal, brown sugar, butter, and flower because tomorrow is one of my supervisor’s birthdays. I love baking, but let’s be honest, I don’t do it often because I have no self-control around desserts; although, this whole no soy thing has actually required quite a bit of self-control, especially around chocolate. If you ever see soy-free chocolate chips, I beg you, mail them to me! I gave…
My second day at my internship was a little bit boring as we spent the whole day purging old files and rearranging the current ones. I have multiple paper cuts. I also got to clean out a back room and make it into a more usable space, which was a fun project. I love cleansing/rearranging/organization projects, especially the end result of these kinds of projects. All of the interns were working so hard that we had to be reminded to…
How goes it? I entertained Ralph for the day and it was nice having an older boy for a change. Ralph can do so many more things than the 2, 3, and 4-year-olds I’ve been with all summer. We played catch, basketball, and a few board games and the day flew by. After work, I got to exercise at a special location! Those of you who live in the area have probably heard about Healthworks (the all women’s gym) because…
Howdy, How’s it going? My day started out with some much needed sleep. Despite some crazy thunder, I managed to snooze until 9, which felt glorious. Only two more days + a weekend of freedom before my internship begins! I’m dreading the transition to an adult schedule, but I am getting very excited about working with teenagers and having the responsibilities of a real school psychologist. I didn’t accomplish much this morning, as I watched Rachel Ray, caught up on…
