My sister is in town because we are traveling to San Francisco to attend the annual Foodbuzz festival (my first!!) tomorrow. Since my Dad just had a birthday, my family gathered in Durham for an evening of celebration. We started at my apartment with some Prosecco that I received as a gift at my Halloween party. Yumm, this was good and very refreshing after a four-day (!) work week. We headed to dinner at Bull City burger, an awesome brewery…
Durham
I’m exhausted from a fabulous weekend of eating, drinking, singing, dancing, and laughing with friends. You’ll have to wait until tomorrow for a full recap:) In the meantime, Happy Halloween!!!! (these jumbo spiders are freaking me out this year…they’re everywhere!)…
Hey, hey. How’s it going? My day was loooong. Well, all days are long, but this one started at 4:15 this morning when water from the apartment above us decided to leak into our guest bathroom, creating a ruckus as well as a large puddle. Matt and I debated what to do, and since it was too loud to sleep though, we tried to call the emergency maintenance line. Only we couldn’t find the number. Luckily, the leak stopped around…
For the most part, my job involves working in an office. But every once and a while, I get out. Today, I led a group of students up 230 stairs to the top of Duke Chapel. Man, I was not expecting the climb to be so treacherous. Because the stairs are very narrow and dark, I climbed at a steady pace so I could to the fresh air as quickly as possible. Going round and round made me very dizzy.…
For the first time ever, I tried yoga. The verdict? I didn’t love it, but I didn’t hate it. I was really worried I would hate it, so that is a good thing. I realize the class was only one type of yoga and there seems to be quite a bit of variation between the types of yoga. A couple of thoughts from the experience: It was a beginner’s class, but it was power yoga, so I had hoped…
Howdy. How was your day? Tuesday seems to be my hump day – once I get through it, I immediately feel better about the week. I’m still having trouble not just living for the weekends…how do you avoid wishing away the work week when weekends are so fabulous? Changing subjects, I got the most amazing haircut this afternoon. It doesn’t look that amazing (because my hair is brassy and damaged), but the stylist was one of the best I’ve ever…
Having people over finally motivated me to hang pictures, so without further ado, here’s the ole tobacco warehouse that I now call home. View from entrance: The very basic kitchen with a pole in the middle:) My lovely new dining table; a gift from my grandmother last Christmas. That’s her art on the wall as well! An antique chair that my mom helped me get re-upholstered; I believe it was a great Aunt’s. [that’s an old elevator shaft behind it].…
Good Evening. I’m scurrying off to bed because I’ve been busy all night: The Fuqua partners organized a Durham Bulls outing. It was tons of fun being back in the stadium because I grew up going to games with my family. Typically, I’d bring a girlfriend, my dad would give us a twenty, and we’d spend the game looking at boys and trying to stretch our money out over the innings; nachos, fries, sometimes a taco, but always the ice…
So where did I leave off yesterday? Ahh, yes, the basil beer. I’d seen this on tap in Hillsborough and practically ran towards it when we arrived at Fullsteam last night. I love farmhouse style beers and saisons – and with a hint of basil? Yes, please. It was subtle, but certainly detectable, and expectations were met. Once I quenched my thirst, I surveyed the food trucks. I really wanted to try the Korean bbq that was recently written up…
