Fourth on the Fifth

Uncategorized

Sorry for the day-late recap of the 4th. I’m still running around, trying to get at least a little bit organized before we leave for our 10-day trip. I had another interview today and two more tomorrow, so I’ve had to spend timing preparing for those rather than unpacking. The holiday was perfectly relaxing though, and it was nice to get away from boxes and furniture assembly for a day. No one in the family really wanted the stress of…

Mothers and Other Lovely Things

Uncategorized

It was so sad seeing everyone go this afternoon, but this weekend couldn’t have been more perfect. And, thank you guys for your sweet comments and congratulations:) Yesterday, we strolled around the city and ducked into the Otherside cafe for lunch to seek shelter from the thunderstorms. Though we spent the afternoon eating cake, we somehow made room for a fabulous dinner in Boston’s North End. But first, I took the gang to the Liberty Hotel because I love the…

Jersey’s Finest

Travel

Hi friends, I’ve been getting my relaxation on, first with Matt’s parents and grandpa, and then in Atlantic City! Despite torrential downpours, wind, and losing power for a minute, I enjoyed getting to hear about Matt’s family history, looking at goofy old pictures, and exploring the quaint town of Island Heights. As always, we did a small beer tasting – a wonderful imperial stout from Weyerbacher. Matt’s grandpa is 93 and will only eat at his favorite diner – Perkins,…

Beer, Bread, and Dessert-Loving Family

Travel

I had such a fun weekend visiting my grandmother in Baltimore! We had pie for breakfast… And, when Kath and Kanz are around, we always eat lots of fantastic bread…    On Saturday we did some shopping at the Towson Loehmann’s, where my mom and grandmother have been shopping for 30 years! I’m sure you’ll get a glimpse of some of my new stuff through Fashion Friday posts… Matt and his parents joined us for cheese and beer sampling before…

Barely a Boot Camp

Any guesses as to what we did last night? Surprise, surprise, we drank lots of good beer and ate delicious food:) I spotted one of my all time favorite beers in the Durham Whole Foods last week, so I snagged one to enjoy on vacation. It wasn’t quite as thick as I remember, but it sure tasted like chocolate. I received this banana bread beer as a gift, we I shared it with everyone. The banana taste was good, but…

Grey Snowy Island

Travel

A grey and snowy island = ultimate relaxation . We all spent the majority of the day on the couch in front of the fire, but we ventured out just before cocktail hour for a little exercise. The snow and wind intensified on our walk and we barely lasted 30 minutes. I warmed up quickly with a home-brewed imperial pumpkin once we got back. Mmmmm. I switched to wine for dinner… We enjoyed all of the food that had been…

Christmas Crossing

Travel

Yesterday started like any other Christmas morning. Pancakes, banana + date & walnut bread, eggs, and fruit. All served on Duke china in honor of Matt. After breakfast, we opened the rest of the presents. I got a jewelry tree from my mom… and an awesome collection of rare spices from Williams Sonoma from Matt’s mom! There seemed to be an emphasis on Duke and cooking this Christmas:) I also got FOUR scarves….good thing I love them! After lunch, my…

The Fireside Buffet

Uncategorized

What a wonderful day with family! Kath, Kanz, + Karen, and Matt’s family all arrived this afternoon just before cocktail hour. I had a a big old mug of Kanz’s home-brewed double. We made lite sandwiches to keep our stomach’s from growling during church… Our group braved the cold and walked downtown. We sang all the usual hymns and shared the flame to spread the Christmas cheer. Once home, we gathered around the tree for the yearly Younger buffet and gift…
