Ta-Ta Pumpkin

Travel

Good Afternoon, I’ve enjoyed pumpkin season so much this year, but I think it officially ends with Christmas. I had half of a can of pumpkin in my fridge last night, so I made one last loaf of pumpkin bread (with a little bit of frozen butternut in it as well) to bring home to my family. I filled this one with raisins, so I’ll let you know how it tastes. Like most of my trips home, my schedule is…

We arrived in Charlottesville just in time for another Thanksgiving [lunch]!!! And I got to have one of my favorite Thanksgiving casseroles: Karen’s Pineapple Sweet Potato:   Kanz’s Rosemary Garlic Cheddar rolls and homemade imperial pumpkin ale were awesome too! Dessert was my mom’s pumpkin chiffon pie and Karen’s apple bars. Mmmmmmmmm. After lunch, we braved the [southern] cold for a hike to Jefferson’s homeland on Monticello trail. Rejuvenated by the fresh mountain air, we prepared for yet another Thanksgiving…

Thanksgiving at Matt’s was just dandy. After an hour stint at the local Gold’s gym, a beer tasting ensued. The Mad Elf Ale was BEER-tastic! It reminded me of a darker and less-sweet version of the Sam Adams Cherry Wheat. Definitely a new favorite. The other two beers were nothing to write home about and, honestly, the winter ales are all starting to blend together. Meanwhile, Matt’s mom was hard at work, cooking a fabulous dinner. I had planned on…

HAPPY THANKSGIVING! I’m very thankful for all of you guys:) So yesterday, after a lovely visit with my Grandmother, we went to the bowling alley for a little family fun. Matt’s sister is taking a bowling class in college, so she got a chance to show us her skillz. I, on the other hand, am I terrible bowler. As is evidenced by my score… But, I still had a blast! I guess I need to bowl more frequently? During cocktail…

Beer Heaven

Travel

Immediately after landing yesterday, I was whisked away to beer heaven by Matt’s Dad. Sometimes I miss strip malls… The Wine Corridor was stocked deep and wide with beer and there was one whole aisle dedicated to mix and match singles. The loot: Boy, am I lucky that Matt’s parents love trying new beers as much as I do. I had some of the Java Head stout (which I had on my birthday) and I tried a local Clipper City…

I can’t wait to… not think about cognitive intelligence or report-writing for five days, be warm and cozy, eat lots of delicious food that only comes once a year, enjoy a seasonal brew or two or ten, laugh with family and friends….   and celebrate all that I’m thankful for:)…

Back In My Homeland

Travel

Hi Guys, This morning got off to a good start despite a restless night of sleep.  Matt had to get up at 4:30 for his flight back to Boston and I didn’t sleep well after he left. I still went for a quick treadmill run in the hotel and then I headed over to my Grandmother’s apartment for one last visit. Gram is an artist and she let me pick out one of her paintings to take home.  Don’t you…

Whisky from ’18

Hello again, After a nice walk through the mall this afternoon (it was still raining , so we couldn’t go for a walk outside), we reconvened at my Aunt and Uncle’s house yet again.  I started my evening by tasting a couple of different wines, but the Molly Dooker Shiraz was my favorite again tonight. On the menu was my Grandpa’s very favorite meal: southern fried chicken with macaroni and cheese (and salad).  Ok, so my pictures are terrible, so…

In Loving Memory

Today’s service was a perfect tribute to my Grandfather. The beautiful memories people shared and the lively music was just what Pop would have wanted.  I don’t have the words to describe today, so I’ll leave you with pictures.  …
