I’m back in Durham and ready for some sleep! This weekend’s wedding was one of the most beautiful gatherings I’ve ever attended and the food (and cake) were beyond fabulous – best shrimp and grits of my life. I took a ton of pictures to share with you, but now that I’m looking back at them, I’m seeing a smudge on the right of almost all the pictures. Something got on my lens and I didn’t notice on the tiny…

Whew. This weekend has been a whirlwind of rain, fun, beer, and junk food in a massive parking lot full of Duke graduate students hoping to score season basketball tickets: camp out. Apparently, graduate students are too good for tents, so they rent moving trucks and RV’s for camp out weekend. You see, the students have to camp out for 36 hours so they can report to random check-in’s that occur at all hours of the day. If you make…
Hi there and happy holiday weekend! I apologize that I’ve been MIA. I was out of commission yesterday morning and then I entertained parents last night. It’s already been an amazing weekend and there’s still another day to go!!! These long weekends are ten times more meaningful now that I’m working and have no vacation days! And to top it off, I got to leave work at 3 on Friday. I was overjoyed to get some extra free time and…
Ahhh, there’s nothing like fine wine and fine food with fine friends! This evening was beautiful and since two of my best high school friends were in town, we walked over to Toast and enjoyed a leisurely dinner on the sidewalk of Main St. I debated alcohol and decided the Italian’s would indulge, so I did too. I broke my white streak and went with red. Oh, how I’ve missed red. This spicy italian wine just had so much more…
Hi Friends, This weekend has been quite relaxing so far. Honestly, today has been most settled I’ve felt since the move back in June. All our furniture is here and the only thing we have left to do is hang a million pictures. My body also seems to be adjusting to my work schedule because I actually had the energy to go out last night. Matt and I walked over to Toast, a little cafe on Main St. that pairs…
Hi from DC! Thank you all for your sweet comments about my new job! Some of you asked for more details – I will basically be a project manager/program coordinator for a distance graduate program that involves extensive world-wide travel, so I’ll be coordinating travel logistics, managing mailings, helping plan graduations, making recommendations for improvements based on student feedback, and managing work-study students. I’ll be the go-to person for any task that can’t be handled by the program managers and…
Thursday was mostly dedicated to traveling, but we did have time for a short visit + lunch in Albuquerque before our flight. We walked around the Old Town area, and stumbled across the rattlesnake museum. We didn’t have time to go in, but they had big turtles crawling around outside. And then we spotted the cage labeled “desert scorpion.” I’ve spent most of the trip tiptoeing around and trying to avoid corners in fear of these guys, so when one…
Last night was full of more goodbyes:( My wonderful supervisor took us our for dinner and drinks and we were luckily enough to get a patio seat at Dillon’s on a beautiful evening. I had two glasses of one of my go-to rieslings (Saint M) with dinner. I’m picky about white wine, but on a hot day it can be so refreshing. The table shared some of the biggest sweet potato fries I have ever seen. These were awesome! I…
