Spring weekends in Durham have been splendid. There’s just so much to do! Friday, we enjoyed a Mexican fiesta at Fuqua Friday, and then watched many talented Fuquans perform on Fuqua Idol. I went to the event expecting to hear some decent singers/musicians and left absolutely blown away! My favorite performer (and the overall winner) sang a fantastic acoustic version of Gaga’s Poker Face. Her voice was beyond amazing. And the Fuqua musical was hilarious. On Saturday, I joined my…
Gatherings
And I just can’t say no to them. Matt’s end of year bash for his new company was this evening. And it was a blast! We ventured to the Beyu Cafe in Durham – a restaurant/venue I had not yet visited. There was an open bar, and I just couldn’t resist the fresh cocktail menu! So I ordered the 10$ drinks I always dream of ordering… I had the Kentucky 57 – Maker’s, simple syrup, and champagne. So delish! My…
This weekend was so.much,fun. I know I say that every weekend, but really, this one was just one of those go-with-the-flow, eat, see friends, and relax in between kind of weekends. Not many people showed up to Fuqua Friday, so we ended up going out to dinner. Sometimes Fuqua Friday can be overwhelming because there’s soo many people to talk to, so it was nice to just eat dinner while chatting with two of our good friends. We tried the…
Christina was nice enough to organize a Triangle Blogging Group and I volunteered to host tonight’s potluck! As can be expected, the spread was wonderful: Mojitos, French and British cheeses, dill and curry tuna salad, Mexican quinoa, chicken salad with golden raisins, cake! I made Angela’s banana split bites! Sadly, I made these yesterday, thinking they would be ok in the freezer, but when they thawed, they got gooey and brown. It’s a great recipe though, because they tasted fantastic…
I went to one of two potluck dinners I have this week tonight – a gathering of Davidson people who happen to have settled in Durham, NC! Ok, most of them are associated with Fuqua, but still… Our host did a fabulous job – his apartment was quite elegant and the wine was delicious. When I think of potluck, I think of the gooey crack brownies and the sinful buffalo chicken dip that would appear at my church dinners growing…
Happy hour: one hour of pure relaxation achieved through friends and alcohol. A glass of Riesling for me! After lots of conversation, I was hungry and tired! So I avoided cooking and got one of my favorite salads from Nosh. It’s loaded with bacon, egg, and clusters of candied walnuts. Eaten in record time in front of the TV and washed down with puffins and jelly beans. Oh yeah. I finished my book – How To Eat A Cupcake! It…
Hola, Happy Easter. I’m currently blogging from bed, where I’m in a cake coma. A glorious cake coma. Let’s rewind though and I’ll tell you about my weekend. It started like any weekend – a spinning class and dinner at Fuqua Friday. Matt had a soccer game on Friday (Duke beat UNC), and I watched [freezing cold] from the sidelines with the other lovely Fuqua partners. It was a low-key Friday, because…on Saturday, Matt’s parents came to visit from Maryland!…
So what I was trying to say last night before Ecto ate my post (I pushed publish and it disappeared) is that I’m enjoying just being at home during spring break. Vacations are fun, but getting things done that have been lurking on my to-do list has also been nice. Sometimes being at home is much more relaxing than traveling to relax. Ya know? Monday, I hung out with my mom and we went to an impromptu dinner at one…
Why are Wednesdays soooo long? I go into Wednesdays feeling great and come out feeling like a big ball of stress. I had some issues with a report I was preparing at work and had to stay late to make last minute changes. I didn’t have much time to fit in exercise before a meeting I had this evening, so I skipped spinning and quickly biked in my apartment gym. It’s amazing how much better exercise can make you feel!…
