I started a new babysitting job today. I swore I’d never babysit for income after graduate school, but here I am. And it was great, but hard work! I went straight from babysitting to a lovely happy hour at Six Plates wine bar. You can’t beat a $4 glass of wine. This was a nice cab, nothing special, but enjoyable nonetheless. A variety of appetizers were shared by all. I had bites of everything – the truffle fries, an arugula…
Gatherings
I had a near perfect weekend in New York. I felt great, I ate devine food, I danced, I drank summer beer and mimosas, I reminisced, I indulged, and I lived in the moment. And all in the wonderful company of good friends. [yes, that would be a mac and cheese sampler] As my friend Liz said over a glass of wine and great Indian food last night , Happy Birthday to Marty. How did you celebrate the holiday weekend?…
There’s nothing like a Friday night dinner with friends. Last night we tried Durham’s Blue Corn Cafe. We liked it alot! The food is fresh and a bit healthier that your typical Mexican restaurant. The service was great too and the margaritas tangy. I had the black bean tortas with mango chutney, rice, and plantain chips… It was a great way to celebrate my last day at work. I’m in New York now, for a short visit, and two birthday…
Vacationing is great, but weekends at home can be just as fabulous! Friday night, I had a lot of fun drinking wine and eating pizza with my co-workers. I’m getting sad about leaving them, but was so happy to be able to enjoy a night out with everyone. Saturday was a boat load of fun because I had the whole family over to my place! I think it was the first time it’s ever happened. Kath & Kanz came…
I had a very very merry Christmas (and I hope you did too!) Matt and I helped cook Christmas brunch – pancakes and a huge frittata – and then relaxed and opened presents. I asked for mostly consumables and got some awesome gift-cards! Can’t wait to spend them in the new year. We also headed to Duke gardens for a family walk and then to see the movie My Week with Marilyn. It was such an enjoyable afternoon and the…
…was tons of fun! I took it easy all day – went for a run outside this morning and put the final touches on my white chocolate peppermint cheesecake this afternoon. Then around 3, Matt’s parents arrived and the real party started! We drank beer and chatted for a few hours and Matt and I prepped two pizzas for a late-night dinner. Bacon, mushroom, red pepper on whole wheat and pesto, goat, sun-dried tomatoes, and basil on white.…
Last night I hosted a dinner for my best friends from high school. Oh, how wonderful it was to see everyone and finally really relax!! I provided the adult beverages and Kath’s/Karen’s wonderful veggie lasagna, and everyone else brought the rest. I had an eggnog + bourbon and another Sweetwater Festive, but had to stop halfway through this beer because of a bad headache:( I think the exhaustion of the week caught up with me. But, I still managed to…
A co-worker was kind enough to host a semi last-minute Christmas party this evening. She had a delightful spread and I had a nice snacking plate and a glass of red. Her house was so warm and festive, it made me want one of my own! I haven’t had a cheese ball in years. And graham cracker bark. Almost as much as eating it, I just love examining other people’s holiday spreads. We’re getting down to the final days here,…
1. I think the reintroduction of caffeine has thrown off my brain. I’ve felt quite strange lately. 2. Another Christmas party, another awesome winter beer. Fall and winter beers are the best. 3. Tonight was a Davidson gathering – it’s always nice to reconnect and meet new alum. 4. I snacked on a pulled pork sandwich and some awesome pimento cheese for dinner. 5. I had to pack 154 FexEx boxes at work today because my work study student didn’t…
