Quick One

The Working World

A quick hello, as I’ve got a baking project tonight and I need to get organized for weekend travels. I got home late because I volunteered to help out with (and enjoy) the farewell reception for some of the graduate students I work with. It was a gorgeous night, so I was glad the event was held on the patio of the Washington Duke. I had a glass of house Cab and nibbles of passed appetizers. I don’t get to…

Parking Lot Dance Party

Uncategorized

Whew. This weekend has been a whirlwind of rain, fun, beer, and junk food in a massive parking lot full of Duke graduate students hoping to score season basketball tickets: camp out. Apparently, graduate students are too good for tents, so they rent moving trucks and RV’s for camp out weekend. You see, the students have to camp out for 36 hours so they can report to random check-in’s that occur at all hours of the day. If you make…

Salad for Cereal

Yo. So that gathering I snuck away to last night? It was a birthday celebration for Brendan! It was a surprise party, which was quite fun to be a part of. I felt nervous with anticipation. And this beauty was part of the celebration. A Mad Hatter’s black and white cake!     As much as I love the Mad Hatter, I have say, their icing is not my style. It’s very buttery, but has no grit to it – it’s…

The Fun Continues

Cooking

Hi there and happy holiday weekend! I apologize that I’ve been MIA. I was out of commission yesterday morning and then I entertained parents last night. It’s already been an amazing weekend and there’s still another day to go!!! These long weekends are ten times more meaningful now that I’m working and have no vacation days! And to top it off, I got to leave work at 3 on Friday. I was overjoyed to get some extra free time and…

Extra Happy Happy Hour

Durham Restaurants

Greetings. How was your Wednesday? I worked out before work this morning and it seems to be getting a bit better in terms of how I feel the rest of the day. And I guess feeling a little tired is much much better than the dread of having to exercise after work. Mental obstacles are much harder than physical ones. My work load always seems to pick up around Wednesday – today actually flew by and I felt a nice…

Back in Time

Durham

Good Evening. I’m scurrying off to bed because I’ve been busy all night: The Fuqua partners organized a Durham Bulls outing. It was tons of fun being back in the stadium because I grew up going to games with my family. Typically, I’d bring a girlfriend, my dad would give us a twenty, and we’d spend the game looking at boys and trying to stretch our money out over the innings; nachos, fries, sometimes a taco, but always the ice…

Feels Like Home

Durham Restaurants

Well aside from my blog being all out of sorts (sorry guys!), I had a fabulous weekend. Durham finally feels kinda like home, and not just some strange place I am visiting on an extended vacation. After running errands all day Saturday, I came home and split this Trippel with Matt. It was strong with a spicy-hop finish and I give it two thumbs up! Hopefully, I can add a few new beers to Beer Love once the blog is…

Tasting Tobacco Town

Durham

So where did I leave off yesterday? Ahh, yes, the basil beer. I’d seen this on tap in Hillsborough and practically ran towards it when we arrived at Fullsteam last night. I love farmhouse style beers and saisons – and with a hint of basil? Yes, please. It was subtle, but certainly detectable, and expectations were met. Once I quenched my thirst, I surveyed the food trucks. I really wanted to try the Korean bbq that was recently written up…

Barbecue in the Garden

The Working World

So I think I jinxed myself when I said I was excited for a Monday full of work – it was the longest day ever. I felt exhausted by 11 am and I didn’t have much work to do, so the time passed more slowly. I was also anticipating the evening, so it felt like a Friday. Unfortunately, when 5 o’clock finally hit, I had a massive headache. Despite how I was feeling, I met some really nice partners while…
