We had a fun week of visitors last week – Matt’s sister was in town for work and got to meet Emerson for the first time, and my mom came back to visit towards the end of the week. We took Matt’s sister, Chelsea, out to dinner at one of our favorite restaurants – HG Supply. We always enjoy the bowls there, and I had my first cocktail since giving birth! Emmie loves to sleep in the Solly wrap, and…
Life
– I can’t believe Thanksgiving is next week! We’re hosting, and I think it will be really nice not to travel this year. I can’t wait for Matt’s parents to meet Emerson. We’re having most of the classics, but I’m just going to order a carrot cake this year, and try my hand at a green bean casserole variation. -I can’t believe how quickly Emerson is changing. We’ve seen a few smiles this week and her eye contact is soo…
Catch up on part I here. And so began the worst hour of my life. Good thing this story ends with the best moment of my life! I actually don’t remember much of this part of the story, either because the body is designed to forget the pain or because it was almost an out-of-body experience. The contractions were coming every 2 minutes or so and lasting 60-90 seconds, giving me very little time to recover in between. The best…
Without further adieu, my birth story! I apologize in advance for being a bit wordy. — At my 40 week appointment, my doctor decided to go ahead and get me on the schedule for an induction at 42 weeks. Unfortunately, there were already people scheduled and there was also a waiting list, so my only option was Wednesday, 10/12, which was exactly 41.5 weeks. I would’ve loved just one or two more days, because by induction day, I knew I…
Thank you all for your sweet comments and congratulations! We sure are proud parents 🙂 As you can imagine, there’s been a lot to adjust to in the past two weeks. I was surprised by how long the recovery took – I wasn’t expecting the nausea and intense pelvic pain. But, at the two week mark, I’m finally starting to feel like myself. We were beginning to get into a routine. However, Emerson had to have a procedure done for…
Emerson Grace Allen! Born last Wednesday, October 12th, at 12:41pm. She weighed 8lbs 5ozs and was 20.6 inches long. I’m turning 31 today, and she’s by far the best birthday gift I could have received. We’re celebrating with grandma and grandpa with a trip to the pediatrician, takeout and cake, and hopefully a waddle around the block. I have to give a shout out to Matt, who has been AMAZING this past week! We love little Emerson so much already!…
Happy October 1st! I’m so excited to see this day on the calendar, but probably like most first time moms, I thought maybe something would have happened by now! How I’m feeling My body feels decent. I’m still energized most days, which is not at all what I expected. I went through a couple of tough weeks when school started in August, but I think I’m used to the routine now. There’s definitely more pressure on my pelvic bones, and…
-I think I’m nesting? We discovered some mold around our AC vents and had to move into the guest room while it’s being remediated. As a result, Matt and I cleaned out our closet and old files, moved his office out of the nursery, and did a ton of things around the house that I may have put off for years! -The timing of summer break has been perfect, as I have a surge of energy and have been running…
Hi friends, We are back at home in Texas after a lovely trip to visit friends and family in North Carolina, both at our alma mater and at the beach. As we traveled back from the coast to Charlotte to catch our flight, we learned of the horrifying news in Orlando on Sunday. It’s such a sad time for our country, and it’s disheartening that things only seem to be getting worse. We also learned of my dear aunt Pat…
