An Adult, Officially

Durham Restaurants

Well I survived my first day of a real job, which makes me officially an adult. At one point during the day I was organizing my desk and I stopped and thought I’m getting paid for this! It felt so good to have a desktop computer and voicemail and filing cabinets and other adult things that I never really had at my internship. Space just for me! Now I hope I like the actual work. Although apparently it’s not…

Busy

Uncategorized

Hello friends. I apologize for my absence. I’ve been busy…. busy making salads and sweet potatoes in an attempt to return to normal eating after my trip, busying shopping for bikes and work clothes, busy filling out paperwork, and busy celebrating with riesling at West End Wine Bar. Why, more merriment after a ten-day celebration of life, you ask? Because this girl is employed! No more wondering where I’ll be working, when my career will begin, of if I will…

Finale

Travel

So the plan was to ride bikes on some fun trail with a scenic view, but the trails were closed because of the fires:( We were disappointed at first, but quickly discovered that the roads were just as scenic! We did a little in-town riding at the beginning and I love looking at the sculptures along Canyon road. I wish we had had more time to explore all of the wonderful galleries. After four hours though, I was so done with…

A Brief Respite

Travel

Guess who? Nope…not Larbs this time. A big ‘Hello’ from Matt, the caring BF. I’m not sure if it was L’s nudging or my sincere desire to allow the GF a full day of vacationing (read: no blogging…though, I’ll admit, she did upload the pics ahead of time), but I’m jumping into the ring to write a quick guest post. Have no fear, however, Laura will be back tomorrow with a much more colorful description of our activities and great…

Out Doors

Cooking

It sure is hot here, but I’m in love with our outdoor space. It’s the one thing I really wanted in Boston but we were not able to afford it up there. Now we have a small deck!!! Last night, we officially cooked our first dinner in the new kitchen: tilapia with strawberry sauce, rice, and brussels. It was nice and light, but a bit bland because I forgot to buy butter! It’s something that’s almost always in our fridge,…

Celebrating Matt

Uncategorized

Yesterday was about celebration and relaxation. We slept in till 9 and then I made the birthday boy pancakes. It’s only been about three weeks since we’ve had pancakes and the first bite made me realize that I’ve missed our Thursday pancake ritual so.much.    We did some more unpacking and furniture assembly and fit in a quick couples workout in my apartment’s gym:) Then we headed to the lake! We’re already obsessed with the sandwiches and salads at The…

City and Sibling Rivalry

Uncategorized

Durham has some great little restaurants and I love the emphasis on farm to table food. But, let’s be honest, the restaurant selection here will never rival Boston’s! So, on our last night in beantown, we got to try one more swanky south end gem: Sibling Rivalry. The dinner was compliments of a giftcard from none other than my sibling:) Sibling Rivalry is unique because the menu was created by two brothers who each interpreted a certain ingredient to create…

The Last Day of Spring

Uncategorized

Last night was full of more goodbyes:( My wonderful supervisor took us our for dinner and drinks and we were luckily enough to get a patio seat at Dillon’s on a beautiful evening. I had two glasses of one of my go-to rieslings (Saint M) with dinner. I’m picky about white wine, but on a hot day it can be so refreshing. The table shared some of the biggest sweet potato fries I have ever seen. These were awesome! I…

Hi and Bye

Uncategorized

I loved this book! I actually finished it on the stairclimber at 7 this morning, so it was fresh on my mind for the discussion. So many interesting things to contemplate!    Of course, book club included snacks – guacamole, peeta (!) and hummus, tomato + feta dip, cheeses, salad… and I made bean dip. I used a different salsa this time and it was too watery, but the flavor was still good. This wine was fab. And how cute…
